As a secondary heat source, a wood burning stove, used properly, is a much better alternative to an open fireplace. They are so efficient at producing heat that they serve as a great source to heat a large portion of your home.
Reasons to Choose a Wood Burning Stove
Wood burning stoves are efficient to use, inexpensive to maintain, and stylish to display. Here’s more about these top three reasons to choose a wood burning stove.
Wood Burning Stoves Have Become More Efficient
The most prevalent wood burning stoves in existence still goes back to the pre-EPA stoves from the 80’s and earlier, which put out 20-60+ grams of particulate per hour. However, the post-2020 woodstoves are going to be the most efficient stoves of their time at less than 2.0 grams of particulate per hour on crib wood, and 2.5 grams of particulate per hour on cord wood. This will make them the highest heat delivering stoves ever produced. Very few of those “junk” pieces will be leaving the stove, but instead, will all be re-burned.
A wood burning stove features a relatively sealed combustion, allowing less heat to be lost up the chimney. By burning and re-burning most of the exhaust gases, very little heat from each piece of wood is wasted. In many ways, making wood burning stoves are better at delivering heat to your home.
Wood Is Inexpensive
Wood is cheap compared to other fuels; it’s like it grows on trees. Oh right, it does. With firewood being a readily obtained renewable source, the cost remains stable and reasonably priced, and its extraction is less detrimental to the environment than oil and gas wells.
You cannot just use any wood in a wood burning stove. The wood must be seasoned (dried out) into firewood. It’s important to stay away from wet wood because not only is it more likely to build chimney clogging creosote, it can also cause your wood burning stove to underperform and harder to light.
Wood Burning Stoves Speak to Your Personality
With many designs to choose from, a wood burning stove is a statement piece that speaks to your sophistication. Whether you choose a sleek geometrical stove or a cast iron stove, your wood burning stove will add a decorative flair to any room.
Unlike a fireplace, a stove can be placed anywhere in your room, allowing you to customize your room set up to your specific tastes. Place a wood burning stove in the hollow of an existing fireplace or even right in the middle of the room.
Choose a Wood Burning Stove
When choosing how to heat your room, you have many options. Open fireplaces, wood burning stoves, even electric space heaters, are all options to heat your room. But if you want a high-efficiency solution that looks captivating and is easy to maintain, your choice is obvious. A wood burning stove is unmatched in style and performance.
