Renaissance Fireplaces™ manufactures the award winning Renaissance Rumford™, a beautiful open hearth wood fireplace design that offers major advantages over a traditional open fireplace.
In the 1790’s the “Rumford fireplace” became state-of-the-art worldwide when Ben Thompson, “Count Rumford”, once a resident of Portsmouth, NH, and a member of the New Hampshire Militia, applied his knowledge of heat to the improvement of fireplaces. He made them smaller and shallower with widely angled covings to reflect more heat. Count Rumford also streamlined the throat to eliminate turbulence and carry away the smoke with little loss of heated room air. The Rumford was a technological marvel for its day, and todays Renaissance Rumford™ from Industrial Chimney Company is just as significant for fireplace lovers today who want a visually stunning open fireplace and the latest clean burning technology! Finally, open fireplaces are brought into the 21st century. Enjoy the ambiance of an open fire and the peace of mind that comes with very low emissions for a more sustainable environment.
Why does the Renaissance burn so much more cleanly than a regular fireplace? The key to lowering emissions is to achieve and maintain very high temperatures, which allows volatile gasses and particulates to burn. The Renaissance Rumford from Industrial Chimney Company has won the 2009 EPA “Clean Air Excellence Award” and was the only fireplace to do so. The Renaissance Rumford™ is so clean burning that with normal air-dried firewood there is typically no visible smoke within two minutes of lighting the fire, even with the door open. With its ceramic glass hideaway door, the Renaissance is the ultimate clean-face, wood-burning fireplace. The mechanical parts disappear, leaving a gorgeous herringbone firebox and providing a clean canvas for the finishing designer. The door is both beautiful and functional, and it operates so smoothly that it can be lifted with a single finger. The entire firebox and throat are lined with Skamol, a material that is durable at the highest temperatures achieved in the Renaissance, and is built with very “heavy steel” construction so they can be used on a daily basis and last as long as your house. The Renaissance uses only the Model RIS chimney, which is listed to UL 103HT, the UL Standard for chimneys capable of withstanding repeated chimney fires. It is also the highest standard that any large diameter chimney is certified to.
Renaissance Rumford™ comes in three models: The Renaissance Rumford™1000, the Rumford 1000H, which comes with a gravity vent system designed to increase efficiency and potentially heat additional rooms, and the biggest of the big, the Renaissance 1500. With nearly 1500 square inches of high quality ceramic glass, there is no other manufactured fireplace on the market that can compare. The 1500 is an excellent alternative to a traditional open hearth fireplace: It has the size and appearance of a stone hearth, but the added benefit of an air tight door, tons of heat and reduced emissions.
Cleaner fires are more beautiful fires: A Renaissance Rumford™ fire is so incredibly tall, bright and lively that you need to see it to appreciate it.
